My darling Kelsey Maeve was my best friend for over 12 years and will always have a very special place in my heart. She loved to take rides in the car and eat fruits and veggies–she would do “the white box dance” whenever I went out to dinner and brought leftovers home. She didn’t give many kisses so those she did give were more valuable than gold or jewels. What she did give freely was unconditional love and companionship beyond compare.
Since she was getting a bit older we noticed she had begun slowing down a bit. But then one weekend she suddenly went into renal failure and despite all that our wonderful veterinary team could do she couldn’t recover. I brought her home Friday afternoon to spend her last weekend pampering her and doing all her favorite things. But Saturday morning she was worse again so we knew it was time to say good-bye. It’s the hardest decision any pet owner has to make but also the kindest thing we can do for our beloved animals. So she quietly went to the Rainbow Bridge with her ma’am stroking in paw and whispering in her ear how much she was loved by her family.
For several months prior I had been actively looking for a female to add to the family to give Kelsey some companionship and ease the pain we knew would come one day. Every litter I had my name on had only male pups. About 10 days after Kelsey’s passing the chance came to bring a 2-year-old female into our home. We have come to the understanding that this was all in Kelsy’s plan. Being older she didn’t feel up to taking on a young pup but she did want to make sure her ma’am found the right Scottie to ease the pain of her leaving. From her perch at the bridge she saw that Lena Grace in Kentucky needed a good home and was determined that she got one with me. Lena finally joined the family in April. There are things she does that only Kelsey could have coached her about. We love Miss Lena very much and love Kelsey for sending her to us but do still miss Kelsey every day. The scottie-shaped hole in my heart is beginning to scar over but will never go away completely.
Love always sweet angel,
