Dog
Kelsie was born the day of the Oklahoma City Bombing.
In a way there’s some irony behind that.
Her whole life has been full of tragedies but she never gave up.
So this is the story of a special dog who decided to make the most of life…
My parents decided to get a puppy for me
since I had shown an interest in obedience training
(our 2 other dogs were too old).
We brought Kelsie home in July.
She was a very intelligent and active puppy.
We took her to all of our horse competitions and everyone loved her.
When Kelsie was 2 she was bred and later had a litter of 9 puppies.
They were born on Halloween (the irony continues).
Unfortunately four of them had heart conditions and
didn’t live for more than 3 months.
Kelsie never got to be a mother again.
We were afraid she was the one who was passing on the heart condition
(it could have been the dad also).
Later that year Kelsie injured her knee.
The vet told us it was a sports injury and could be surgically fixed
but there was no guarantee.
We decided against surgery since it was very expensive.
Kelsie took painkillers for the rest of her life
but rarely showed that she was in pain.
Kelsie’s final tragedy happened last Friday.
We took her to an emergency clinic
because we came home to find that she could barely walk.
After 2 hours in the emergency room
we were told she has advanced bone cancer.
Options were few
since it had already spread to her lungs and heart.
We made the difficult to decision to have her put to sleep on Monday
(she was 6 yrs old).
All weekend people came to say good-bye to Kelsie
but she didn’t know why.
I guess it’s better that way.
Kelsie is now in heaven playing with all her old friends.
She is missed by many and forgotten by none…
We’ll all meet again someday Kelsie…
until then
we miss and love you girl…
