This is a story of a simple life.
This is the story of a dog named Keltie.
Our daughter picked Keltie to join our family.
Then Keltie was so tiny that she looked more like a hamster than a puppy.
She had bright brown eyes and a tail that never stopped wagging.
She also had an attitude bold and brave.
Keltie didn’t like us at first. She cried all night when we brought her
to our home. But she came with a blanket and her favorite toy to comfort
her. Soon she forgot these things and found comfort in our company
instead. We had captured her heart and she had certainly captured ours.
Keltie was beautiful and smart. She was show dog who won many ribbons.
She was sometimes a naughty dog who got into trouble. Mostly she was
our dog there to greet you when you arrived home and to sleep at your
feet when the day was over.
She liked green grapes carrot peels and gravy from the Christmas
turkey. In fact she liked to eat just about anything that fell on the
floor. She liked fires in a fireplace car rides and sometimes getting
cuddled on the sofa. Mostly because then she was allowed on the sofa.
She did not like getting wet boat rides or cats and squirrels.
She was smart loveable and very very cute. She knew it.
As all dogs do Keltie grew old. We hardly seemed to notice.
First no more walks. No more running up the stairs. No more barking when the
phone or door bell rang. Finally she could no longer see us. Then her
tail stopped wagging. It was her way to tell us ” I can’t hear you when
you speak to me. I can’t see you when you smile at me. I am afraid
that you will leave me alone because now I am old”.
Keltie we never left you though you had to leave us.
When we see the first snowflakes fall we will remember how joyful you
were. When the wind blows we will think of how you turned your face to
sniff the air. When we see a dog running for the pure pleasure of it we
will want to call your name.
Yours was a simple life but it enriched ours so very much.
Thank you for sharing your simple life with our family.
