Lacey came into my life in June of 2001. Earlier that month my cat, Snowbear, had died of cancer. I was really missing him so my husband brought Lacey home to cheer me up.
She was a tiny ball of fuzz, even though she was 8 weeks old. She was cute, cuddly, and she did help to fill the void. I quickly fell in love with her.
When she was about 10 months old I found an adorable male cat at the pet store and brought him home. I named him Frosty. Soon the two got together to have a litter of five kittens. Lacey was a wonderful mom ā never have seen a better one.
Lacey used to dance. She would sit up on her back legs and wave her front paws over her head. It was so cute! She did that for the rest of her life. Sometimes I asked her to dance and other times she just did it on her own.
Lacey also came from a long line of psycho kitties and as she got older she became increasingly bi-polar in nature. Still, I loved her. She would come sit with me and purr. She would gaze up at me with adoration in her eyes. Then she would spit and run away. A few minutes later she was back.
Lacey died on January 23, 2007, when my home burned. She would have been six soon. I will never forget her and how she cheered me up. I know she loved me and I loved her too. I miss her horribly.
I chose the photo because being a mama was what Lacey did best. She was so happy with her kittens and she was enormously proud of them too.
I was so lucky to have you in my life Lacey. You were a wonderful friend to me and I can never, ever replace you. Iām sorry I let you down ā I should have gotten you out of the house. I hope you can forgive me for not taking care of you the way I should have.
Someday I hope to see you again. Then we can continue our unique relationship. Until then please know how much I love you and miss you. Thank you for being such a special friend. You are a jewel Lacey. I love you forever.
Forever,
