Little Darling picked me to adopt her even though she was deemed unadoptable because of her breed mix. She loved people, especially children, and I had always had high hopes of using her as a pet therapy dog. One day while out walking, one of her favorite activities, we met a group of young boys. All of the boys wanted to pet her first but Little Darling spotted a lad with Down’s syndrome and decided that he would be given the honor of being the first to pet her.
She gently approached the boy and he bent down and softly caressed her soft brindle coat. When he looked up again he had the most beautiful smile I have ever seen in my life. For once in his young life he was picked to be the first.
That day Little Darling taught me a valuable lesson I shall never forget. She was able to look past the outward appearance and see into the pure and gentle soul of a boy whom God had blessed to be special in a way known only to him. Unfortunately Little Darling died of a fast spreading cancer before she could show her full potential as a pet therapy dog but on that one magical day she showed the world that her soul was perfect even if her breeding was not.
Always In My Heart,
Little Darling |
