Lucky by David & Annette Oldaker / David, Annette & Brittany

Lucky Boy,

The day you were brought into our veterinary clinic, I knew that you were a special boy. You had been gunshot and were in terrible pain, but you did not even attempt
to bite us *strangers.
We took you into surgery and had to amputate your rear leg and repair all the other bullet wounds.

I had decided to name you Lucky, due to the fact that you were lucky to just be alive. I spent many long hours caring for you and helping you learn how to walk without the use of all four legs. You did fine. Well, when your previous owner never came back to get you, I guess that was my lucky day. You came home to live with us.

I took you to obedience classes, we installed an electric fence around our yard, and we had many fun trips to camp at our river lot. We knew when we took you to live with us, your days would be numbered. So, after a few years, you developed arthritis in your rear hip and we gave you medication to help allievate the pain for awhile.

After knowing that you would not make it through another winter, we decided to help end the pain that you were in. We gave to you what you have given to us. Unconditional love… I took you to the clinic with me one last time.

Dr. Todd gave you an injection to make you sleepy and then admisistered the lethal injection that sent you over the Rainbow Bridge. You were such a good friend to us and gave us many years of wet kisses and hand shakes. We never come into our house without looking for you.

It still seems like you should be there to greet us with that special whine of yours. Well, you can run all you want now and I won’t be afraid of you getting hit by a speeding car.
I love you my friend!
