Mango by Anna and Dick Keller / Brandy

Sweet Mango girl,

You brought such joy and love into our lives. When you were just a little, warm ball of kitten I brought you to college with me, naming you after the fruit you reminded me of, with your dappled, sunny colors, your bright, green and yellow eyes, and your sweet disposition. You soon won my heart with your sense of humor and your amazing stealth and speed. Like it was yesterday, I see you catching mice in the field across the street, playing with them and letting them go, running and jumping as high as you could go, wrapping your strong claws around the door frames and sliding down again, and delicately picking up spaghetti noodles with your lovely white paws, purring as you ate them all.

I remember how smart you were, waiting still as a statue while the big dogs walked by (while that dumb cat, Cali went running away – and guess who they chased?).You were so clever! You and I grew up together, and when I couldn’t keep you, I gave you to the best mom I know. She fell in love with you, too, and you were such a good, appreciative companion to her, a loving friend, and an angel on earth.

Thank you, my sweet Mango, for all of your love, your chin rubs, your grace, and your cool intelligence. Thank you. I feel my life was blessed as you passed through it. So, farewell, my good friend, and though you will be sorely missed, I know in my heart of hearts you are happy, healthy, eating trout feast, sleeping on a sheep skin heated pad, and chasing mice in heaven now. I wish you peace.
