Max,
I will always remember when you first walked up to our porch last July 2002. The neighbor children all knew you, and named you Max. You used to follow their cats in through their cat-door to get a meal. I thought that was so endearing, and as nearly a month passed, I realized
that you were homeless.
I put food and water out for you and looked for people who could take you in. How friendly you were when we called to you, and how you answered back with a meow when running up to us. My heart was filled with compassion for you, and I was so afraid for your life living on the street, so I opened my home and heart to you and now that you are gone you will be sorely missed.
I know that it was hard for Yoshi and Makiko, our two cats, and Piku, our dog to share us with you but after time had past, they too welcomed you and loved you. They look for you every day, in all of your old hiding spots as do I.
You were so warm and loving, you always slept right beside me, often taking more space on the bed than you needed. I never minded that because I just adored you. As much as Mama and I are hurting right now, I have no regrets about bringing you in. I only wish that I could
have done more to save you!
When you isolated yourself Saturday night, and didn’t come and cuddle with me in bed. I couldn’t sleep and I sought you out. When I found you near the litterbox you were barely able to walk. My heart sunk, I feared the worst but I hoped for the best. I took you to the vet at the first opportunity, I was praying that you just hurt your legs and that we could take you home and nurse you back to health. However, the when the vet got the results of the blood and urine lab,
my hopes were dashed.
She told me that you had severe renal failure and you prognosis was very poor. I felt like my heart was breaking in two. If only I had the means to have kept you alive with subcutaneous fluid therapy like so many others have I would have brought you home and cared for you as best we could. I feel so guilty that I had you put to sleep. I just didn’t want you to have
to live in pain anymore.
I miss you terribly! I can only hope that there is some kind of peace for you now, and that we will all be together once again. I treasure the year that you were a part of our family and I will never forget you my little kissy boy.
