Mighty Max by Christy Cogdill & Ricky Dunn / Christy & Ricky

I was moving away from my old neighborhood into my new house when my neighbors across the street wanted to know if I would take their little puppy named MAX…of course I would…so he was with me and Jewel, my black lab mix, from the time I moved til the day he died….We have a huge mountain behind our house and it took him days, but he finally conquered it…so we named it MAX’S Mountain….He loved to run and play, he had a squeaky toy named BEAR that he wouldn’t play with at first, and a pet whale….he is holding the BEAR in the picture…..then, one day he picked it up and all we heard from then on was
squeak, squeak, squeak…..

He woke up one day and you could tell his ear was hurting him so I took him to the vet that afternoon…they gave me penicillin and we went home…that night, he wouldn’t come in the bedroom with us…he laid on his rug looking up at his mountain…..The next morning, you could tell something was definitely wrong…I went outside with him and he sat down at the bottom of his mountain and looked so sadly up at it…he knew he couldn’t climb it….so I took him back to the vet and they kept him and stayed in contact with me that day…

Dr. Heath and Dr. Hammonds at AllPets in Asheville, NC worked with him…done everything they could…The next day, we went by to see him and you could tell his little spirit was dying…God needed a sweet little angel…he passed that evening..and Dr. Heath requested an autopsy since they didn’t know what was wrong with him…turned out Max had a brain abcess and nothing could have been done for him that sounded remotely humane…if they had known….

We had you for exactly 3 weeks and you knew you were loved…and you loved us back….everybody misses you…including me, your dad, (who was more heartbroken than me)—if possible–and your grandmamma and anyone who came in contact with you during your short stay here….

I hope you enjoy HEAVEN and get to run around pain free……I still have your well loved squeaky and Mr Whale…Take care of yourself until we see you again….We love you and you left a hole in our heart, we still miss and love you always.
