Milo and Otis by Jessie Murry

Well where do you start when you want to tell of a story so hurtful it
could make you care. Well than ok Here is where I will start.

My sister and me had got two of the most wonderful puppies
that we could ever find.(we had lost our other dogs about 3 years earlier)
We had finally got on with our lives and found someone new to
share it with.
Well that summer was great we did every thing together horse back
riding fishing camping hiking.
I mean we would not go anywhere without our dogs.
I know that people where I live wonder if their animals will save them
or even die for them I never really thought that a dogs love could
run so deep.
But We found out just how deep our dogs love would go.
We live on a ranch about 45 miles from town and we had no phones
and well one day my sister and me where riding our horses and had just
got back and had found that our sheep where out of the pen.
So all of us(sister, dogs) went to look for them.
We found them behind our shed but when we went to move them
they didn’t want to move so when we finally got them back in there
pen we saw sheep lying on the ground dead.
But we didn’t know that a bear had done it.
So when we where about ready to go up to the house we heard
something our dogs where barking at something.
When we turned around there was a very very big Grizzly bear there
the biggest one in our county.
The Bear came at us and hurt my sister(had to have 42 stitches on her back)
and was about ready to come at me when our dogs jumped on him
and started to fight him.
I ran with my sister (I was holding her) up to the house and
got out my dads shotgun and went back down there.
When I got there our dogs where still fighting it off I called off our dogs
and shot the bear twice.
But what I didn’t know was just how bad our dogs where hurt.
We had no car to get them to a vet and my sister to a doctor.
So I went and saddled 4 horses and went down road 10 miles
with our dogs and sister and called 911 and told them
what happened.
But the police would not take care of our dogs because
people come first.
By then Otis (my sisters dog) had already died And all I could think
about was Milo(my dog) so I road 2 more miles down the road to
where I work and took(stole) the work truck to the vet.
But the vet where I live a big jerks he made me wait my turn
to see him.
By the time it was my turn Milo had lost too much blood
and could not be saved.

We buried our dogs in the family cemetery because they where part
of our family and the saved our lives.
Well now because of the fact that police and vets think that they
know what’s best and they think nothing if animals die.
Me and my sister lost our best friends.
The town we live in gave our dogs medals for what they did for us,
and they are buried on the family cemetery.
Does not bring back the fact that our best friends died
to save our lives.

I know some people will read this and either think it is stupid or
that it could never happen. Well I wish that was true because
than we would still have our dogs.

The last things I want to leave you with is:
The love you give any animals they will try to repay you.
Never underestimate the power of love.
Always believe that if you truly love any animal big or small they
love you 10 times more.
The most wonderful friends can come in any size.
Love is the greatest gift of all!!!!
