Beagle
Mr. Mugsy arrived at the shelter where my fiancé and I volunteer.
He was a beagle who stole my heart the minute I laid eyes on him.
At least ten yrs old perhaps older his eyes said “get me out of here”.
Unfortunately he had a hematoma from a badly infected
ear that required surgery to correct. We decided to bring him home
to foster him. It was clear once he entered our house he was ours for life.
We also discovered that he was deaf!
This was never an issue because he would always let you
know what he wanted….usually food!
The first dog we adopted Cosmo a 100 lb mixed breed accepted Mr. Mugs
into the family fold. They became brothers despite their size
and age differences. Cosmo was a dog no one would adopt.
He spent months at the shelter. No one would take him perhaps
because he was so gigantic.
Cosmo accepted the two dogs that followed him into our family.
He watched over Mugs and Ginny our 10+ yr old rescued shep
who joined us the winter after Mugs. Together these three dogs who no
one wanted to adopt became our family.
Mr. Mugs had an ultrasound on Friday which revealed a tumor in his
spleen and that his kidneys were mineralized and shrunken.
My sweet angel I knew when I adopted you at an older age that our time
together would be short. I never dreamed you would leave us
two and a half yrs later. We made the toughest decision by letting you
leave us today. We held you as your spirit left your body.
I know you are running and pain free. My heart is broken.
The void so huge.
You taught us many lessons.
Most importantly how to love with your whole heart.
When I looked into your cloudy eyes I saw love.
Forever my best friend is how long I’ll love you.
I know this furry family will be reunited again.
Until then wait for me!
I love you “little man”!!!!!!
