Oh Mr Turtle, I am so sorry for the way you died, under the wheels of all those cars while I sat and watched helplessly by the side of the road.
I drove back to you when I realised you were in the middle of the road trying to cross. I saw your little head sticking out watching where you were going.
As I sat there, in my car, torn in two realising I didn’t have enough time to get out to save you before those cars drove by, I actually watched in horror as those tyres ran over you. It was awful. I was hoping they would miss you but that wasn’t to be. I am so sorry!
When the cars had passed, I got out of my car, went over to you, moved you to the side of the road so no one else would run over you. You were a sorry mess, unfortunately squashed by all those tyres.
I said ‘sorry mate’ as I moved you.
You are in a better place now, where you can take as long as you like to cross the green fields. My Polly and Waffle are there, so I hope you meet up with them. Polly in particular will stroll by your side at your pace, while Waffle will probably nudge you to go faster. They will be good buddies to you.
Once again, I am so sorry I wasn’t able to save you.
