West Highland Terrier
I called her my little baby girl but from the start she saw it as the
other way around. Even though her full name was Mummies Bossey
most knew her just by her nickname Queenie.
She was truly royalty to us. I had never before owned a pure bred
and had been looking for one for some time. I found the kennel through
a newspaper ad. I was initially interested in another breed but for
some strange reason I asked if they had any other dogs they
were giving away. The woman said there was just one.
She was a nine year old West Highland White Terrier but she was
scheduled to be put to sleep within the hour.
I took one look at her pleading brown eyes and fell in love.
She seemed to know that I had saved her life and did her best to
repay me in return. Wherever I went she had to follow.
One day I was very sick with the flu. I couldn’t keep anything down for days.
I awoke one evening to find Ms. Bossey sitting on the floor beside me
and her dry dog food on my chest! I guess she decided if I was not
going to feed myself she would have to do it herself.
Then one day she saved my life. I was wanting to go out riding with some
friends one night. Just before leaving Bossey got very agitated and began
to wimper and whine. This was highly unlike her so I stayed home with her.
The next day I found out my friends had had an accident.
Three were injured two were killed. If I had went with them I could’ve been
injured or worse killed. Somehow she knew something bad was
going to happen. Her debt was repaid and she held a special spot
in our home till her death this year.
