Nero {Nerone} by Yvonne

In Memory of Nerone, the ruler of the woods of Locarno!

I’ve travelled the pathway before you,
I’ve made you lord of my day,
But now that I’ve gone on before you,
It is only to show you the way.

Nero was one cute little guy, known by everybody in our neighbourhood. He was the King of the woods, walking and sniffing around for hours, all by himself. He was my two Cocker girls'(Luna and Stella) best friend, they loved him dearly. He protected them and thought they were his “harem”, so when another male was around, Nero growled and showed his tiger walk. Even when the other dog was ten times his size.

We will always remember Nero in our hearts, as the strong-minded little dog he was, to us “a lion in 14 pounds of black fur”. Nothing could scare him, he always did what he wanted, he was very independent.

I will never forget the picture of my girls greeting him so enthusiastically on Jan 1st, as if they knew it’d be the last time they’d see their friend. Nero was more interested in other dogs than people, but he always came over to me to say hi, standing on his two tiny hind legs, looking up at me. I’ve known him from puppyhood on, he’ll be greatly missed
by us and his family.

It was a shock when I got the sad news about Nero’s sudden death. He had cardiac cough, and died at night. The only comfort to me is that he was at home surrounded
by his family.

Nero, now you can walk and sniff eternally, don’t act too much like a boss, try to remember you’re very small 🙂 We’ll never forget you! I hope you have met Shera, you two had great times at the woods. I am sure you’re watching down on us, still protecting my girls (or better – YOUR girls)from anything!

We send you hugs and kisses Nero, rest in peace, until we meet again….
