You came into our lives on a beautiful, snowy day in December. You were our first Christmas puppy; four pounds of energy and delight. Those big, black eyes could melt the hardest heart. Your antics made us laugh. No one could have guessed the lasting impact you would have on us all.
No puppy was as well behaved as you, our Dearest Niles. No chair legs chewed, no children’s toys destroyed. Brandon did not care when you tinkled on his chest. Melissa never thought twice when she cleaned the “accidents” from the floor. Dad never minded shoveling out a spot on the deck for you. I relished the early morning feedings, after which you would fall asleep in my arms.
We shared so much; swimming in the pool, our rides in the car, so many nights curled up together in bed. When sickness struck me, you remained by my side, ever watchful. The warmth of your body and your love nursed me through the most trying of times. I hope I returned the favor over these last few months.
You became known to so many as “The Gentleman”. Everyone with whom you had contact loved you.You were gentle and caring, devoted and steadfast. I am so very grateful to have had you in my life. Doctor Patch told me I would see you again in Heaven. I do not have to wait. I can close my eyes and see you. My heart is heavy, not because you are gone, but because you will live there,
with me, forever.
You sleep the sleep of peace, our beloved Little Gentleman. We miss you and always will. We were blessed by your presence and will cherish the memories always.
