Opie was turned into the rescue group I volunteer for at 5 years of age because his owner no longer wanted to ‘deal with his medical issues’. He had a severe heart condition, severe skin allergies and dry eye. Despite the fact that he must have felt miserable most of the time, he was an obedient, friendly, loving little dog who was the best snuggler I have met. The many medications we tried for his heart condition and skin problems were not effective and it was obvious he had limited time. I was saddened that I couldn’t help him more, but there was something I could give him…a forever home. I adopted him and after 5 short months together I had to let him go.
Opie was loved by many, and one of his friends, Faith, sent me this poem she wrote after he passed……………..
Opie:
I will miss you,dear friend
Memories of you will never end
You were such a great pup
Too soon your time was up
Hope we made you happy for a while
Thoughts of you will make us smile
The breath you couldn’t take, actually took you home
The struggles you made will be no more
You’re in peace now,and rest you shall
I love you,my Opie,my pal.
