For my “Babygirl”

I would give everything I owned
to see you one more time
to hold you purring in my arms
to feel your tongue licking my nose
as I wake slowly into the dawn.

I would try everything I could
to feed you that tunafish
to throw that furry mouse
to feel that tail hitting my face
as you walk proudly on my shoulders.

But I will do everything I can
to be strong and not crumble
to pay tribute to your memory
to love even after I’ve lost
as you’ve loved me for so long.
