Pebbles

April 2 1985 —- Aug. 9 1995

I would like to share a letter written by my co-worker June Crawford

(now deceased) written to my family as if from our dog Pebbles:

To my loving family:

I was looking over your shoulder as you mourned me.

I don’t want you to feel sad because I landed in a beautiful place.

I don’t know what it’s called yet but I just know I like it here.

That is if I can’t be with you then this would

be my second choice.

There are fields of grass and flowers and we run around all day.

We never get hungry therefore it isn’t necessary to go potty and

everything smells nice.

I haven’t been here on a Tuesday yet but my buddies here tell me every

Tuesday is “Cat & Squirrel Day”. We get to chase cats and squirrels.

No one here has caught one yet but they

say it is great sport.

I have my own bed just like the one at home. It was explained to me that as

a newcomer they didn’t want me to get homesick and I could continue

sleeping in my bed here until I get accustomed to this place then if I choose

I can sleep in the BIG dog house with the others.

That’s where they stay up late every night until the wee hours and tell stories

about their life on earth.

Everyone likes to brag they had the best people on earth taking care

of them but they haven’t heard anything yet.

Just wait till I get there and tell them about my life on earth

and my wonderful family.

I understand I will always be here because I have experienced a

wonderful life. Only the souls who were mistreated on earth will go

back again until they find good people to take care of them.

Then when their bodies tire and they have experienced the love and

warmth of good people do they arrive here to stay.

So if you ever adopt another dog I just want you to know that it is probably

one that has been mistreated in a former life and he or she will be

getting another chance to learn how wonderful animal lovers are

and in about 70 or 80 dog years their bodies will tire and they will

come up here where I am.

I just want you to know that I will be here waiting for them and

we will have a wonderful time and we will both be able to

share our fondest memories of our family.

With You Forever,

Pebbles Laudati
