Pepper was just the most wonderful companion! We “inherited” her when we bought our house about 8-1/2 years ago. The owners were moving to Indiana & said it would be too cold for her up there, & since our house was the only place she had every lived, well………we kept her, of course!
We didn’t even know what breed she was until we saw one on the Westminster dog shows! We thought, wow! A Flat Coated Retriever! We knew she was a wonderful dog but didn’t know much else! Of course, that didn’t make us love her any more–we always knew she was special, almost human! We walked many miles together! And yes, they are very active dogs!
Unfortunately, she loved to chase deer. She swam in our pond, just so many things I will always remember about Pepper. She had slowed down, of course, being so old & on Saturday morning, she lay in the sun next to the house (one of her favorite things), I went out, sat down & talked to her & loved on her.
She looked at me as if to say, “well, today’s the day I have to leave you” & I knew she was. She simply passed from this earth into Heaven with as much grace & dignity as she always possessed. I’m thankful for that. She never suffered at all.
I can tell some long stories, can’t I! I really did want to let someone know how important she was to me & how much I loved her. She is buried in the woods in front of our house in a nice area.
I will never forget Pepper
