Doggie – Cat

My little doggie-cat came into our lives in October 1989. Scrawny tiny looking much younger than her age. She stopped on the top of my Blazer and found her home. Cute little face with big Green Eyes. Calico as they say white gray and brown. Not thick hair but it was her personality that made Pickles so special. She loved people especially my mother. She loved to eat purr be picked u and be the center of attention. When the doorbell would ring Pickles would be the first one at the door to great the visitors.

Everyone who met Pickles would fall in love with here because she was so affectionate. Her one flaw was that she did like to give “Love Bites”. She gave “Kisses” freely and would purr so loud you could hear here in the next room.

My little Doggie-Cat made memorable contributions to my life and everyone she touched with her loving heart. She also will have special wings on the other side of Rainbow Ridge.

I regret not having Pickles longer than I did. 11 years was not enough time for me to have such a special cat in my life. She was my mother’s cat for sure. She and my mom were one especially with food. Pix would have all my mom had and then some. Pickles was short but a little portly. So in such a classy way-she carried herself like a little lady.

How did the name “Pickles” come about is so simple. She had beautiful eyes and I wanted a name that would be just as cute as she was. Hence Pickles Poppe. Her middle name is after my mom Sophia. My mom and Pickles were quite a pair.

Doggie-Cat came about from my neighbor Ruthann Corrente. Because Pickles had dog like qualities good qualities like answering the door giving kisses following you around Ruthann gave her the name “Doggie-Cat”.

Pickles was very affectionate. She would get on the bed and sleep on my hip and if I didn’t get up in time she would lick my face and purr so loud I had to wake up. Always on a lap especially when food was at stake. Ready for that tidbit to be dropped and intercepted by her mouth. She loved people beyond what you would perceive cats to do. She was very jealous though always swatting Trixie or Norton as they passed by and always going to their food dish and push them away. But keep down she liked the other two cats.

I was privileged to have Pickles for 11 years not enough time even though she was about four years old when she came into my life. I pray she was happy with me I know she was very happy with my mother. I know that for sure.

Pickles will be wearing special wings up there while hunting for her soul mate Norton. She could not go on living after Norton left us on July 5 2000. She just stopped wanting to go on always meowing for him at the Lanai Screen. When outside she would go to the areas that Norton passed rested at. I tried to love her after Nortie passed on but could not compete with the special bond that developed over the last 11 years between Nortie and Pickles of being a “Cat”

God loves my little Doggie-Cat Pickles Sophia Poppe.
