Pigpen was the second of our four dog family. Snoopy, Patty and Linus are the others; all named after “Peanuts” characters. Pigpen was a funny, loving and slightly neurotic dog. He would woo excitedly at my feet when I fixed the dinner bowls. He was the dog who loved to snuggle on the couch with my husband and me. Thunderstorms and certain other noises freaked him out. He’d get so upset when the batteries in the smoke-detector went bad and the chirping noise started. I’d have to change the batteries even if it was the middle of the night. You just had to love him.
Pigpen’s death was sudden and came five months after the loss of Snoopy. Pigpen tried so hard to stay with us; when he finally let go, my heart broke. Life is not the same without him. He brought us so much happiness and joy. Mourning him will be a long, slow process for me; Pigpen was my favorite. The remaining dogs, my husband and I will go on without him; lucky to have had a wonderful dog like Pigpen in our lives. He will always be in our hearts and memories.
