Scarlet by Gena / Gena (your human mom)

Scarlet,

I remember the first time I saw you. You were in the “cat room” at the Humane Society with eight other cats waiting to be adopted. You were the only one who got up — you rubbed yourself back and forth against your cage trying to get my attention. It was as if you were saying, “pick me, pick me!”

You were so affectionate, of course I couldn’t help but fall in love with you. When I took you to the checkout area, several workers noticed that you had been selected and told me how much they would miss you.

From that first day, you were MY cat. Anywhere I went in the house, you were there, always wanting to be by my side, always wanting to cuddle, sit on my lap, or nuzzle me.

You always knew my moods, especially when I was sad. You were so quiet — content to let your brother get my attention at feeding time. But, when he would pick fights with you, you showed him you were one tough girl! You hissed and swiped your claws at him to defend yourself.
You could take care of yourself.

But, you were such a lady — I called you Scarlett Johanssen (and sometimes “Squawlet” and I still don’t know why.)

It was so hard to make the decision to let you join your brother in pet heaven, but I knew I had to — you had shriveled to just 4 and 1/2 pounds and you couldn’t keep any food down when you even tried to eat.

You brought me so much joy and comfort. I hope you know how much I loved you and always will.

Missing you,
Scarlet
