15/07/2006 Scruff 1990 – 2006
A wonderful companion and very very special friend to Paul and Shirley for over 16 years.
Everybody loved Scruff from the off, he was a white bouncy ball of fluff. His nature was one which emitted love and gentleness; he was capable of been wild and playful at times, but always gentle.
He was never trained but he had better manners than most humans I come into contact with and everybody wanted to know Scruff. When he was 6 we were on holiday and Scruff was staying with my parents, he got free from the Garden and decided to try and catch a bus home. Except the Double Decker bus ran him over. We were having a great time on Holiday and our beloved Scruff was seriously injured.
“You can’t put him down” the Family said. “He has to be kept alive until Paul and Shirley get back”. He was kept alive, but he had to loose a leg and have skin grafts and
stay in Dog Hospital.
When we returned from our holiday the shock was too much to bear. We went to the Vets to see Scruff, seriously injured and covered in more bandages than the invisible man. He wagged his tail which the Vet said he had done throughout as they had been saving his life, even though he was in pain.
When we finally got Scruff back we had to nurse him at home and take him to get his bandages changed every two days. This gentle dog was the bravest. He just got on with his life. He made a full recovery (although his leg did not grow back) and we got another fantastic ten years from our good pal.
Recently as Scruff became unable to walk we bought him some wheels so he could get out and about. Painkillers and steroids were prescribed and we thought this brave little fellow could live forever.
Last night Scruff was lively and full of the joys of Spring. Sadly this morning Scruff was taken ill and Passed away under the supervision of the dedicated Vet who cared for him all these years and his mum Shirley.
Love you forever,
