Snuppy

Our pal Snuppy has been in our family since he was a puppy.

He was a gift for myself and my son Matt.

For the past five years he’s been a faithful friend and guardian.

During his short life we taught him to sit speak

stand on his hind legs and turn in circles.

Just by saying get your baby he would find a ball and play catch

until he was so tired he’d start dropping the ball to catch his breath.

The one thing he loved most besides barking at

strangers walking by was to wrestle with anyone willing.

We have had the same mail lady since before we got Snuppy.

It took a couple of years for him to accept her

but when she started bribing with bones to win

him over it didn’t take long. Last year we adopted another puppy

so Snuppy could have a friend. We got Pepsi “1/2 Rott & 1/2 Lab”

for my husband and daughter. As Pepsi grew they became

inseparable always running and getting into trouble.

The real trouble started around Dec. 09 1999 when they began

digging under and escaping into the neighbors yard.

My husband thought he had all the areas repaired

and so on the 11th we went out to dinner and when we arrived home

we noticed Pepsi in the neighbors yard.

My husband took his truck to go get her and this is his story.

As I was driving around the block to get Pepsi and search for Snuppy

who was known for escaping and running the neighborhood

I noticed a group of people in a circle in the street near the curb.

“This is very hard to write about without crying”

I knew right away what had happened.

I pulled my truck to the side and ran over

someone had covered him with a blanket with just his head out.

I got down on my knees and put his head in my hand and he lifted it up

and looked at me and then put it back down.

Everyone was offering to help but I couldn’t pay attention

with such a good friend laying there in the road helpless.

He looked up again as I picked him up and walked to my truck

as to say goodbye and laid it down for the last time.

The faceless people around me were trying to say maybe

he’s just in shock or something but I know when a friend says goodbye.

I’m going to miss his happiness as he always was

even if it was 40 degrees and pouring rain Snuppy

was ready to make you happy. The hardest part was coming home

and telling my wife Suzy my 6 year old son and 3 year old daughter

that our friend was in my truck but was in heaven now.

My wife and son went out and said goodbye to him and

then my son and I took Snuppy to the 24 hour vet

and arranged for a proper burial. I ask for anyone’s prayers

that reads this for my family.

I gave Snuppy’s collar to my son and offered to him

that we could bury it in memory of Snuppy

or he could keep it and he opted to keep it

he has since attached the picture above to it.

As we watch Pepsi there is no doubt that she misses her best friend

in the world we try to walk her more and do more with her

to help ease the pain.

Unless you have owned a pet and formed a loving bond

you may say it’s just an animal but they are not their family and

they love probably more than we do.
