Sophie was a bunny with a real personality. She had good days and bad ones. We always tried to make sure she was comfortable especially me. I was always worrying. “Are you holding her right?” “Are you sure she’s okay?” And when you were sick or alone in the house she gave you a feeling of comfort that there was someone there a very important presence. You could always tell her how you felt. And sometimes it would look like she wasn’t listening to you. But you knew she was. You could cry to her and she’d look as if she had sympathy for you. And she probably did. When you were angry and told her how angry you felt it look as if she understood. And she probably did.
When this morning it looked as if she was having trouble breathing I thought of it as nothing and had a hard time bringing myself to take her to the vet. And when I did take her and they told me she would have to go into an oxygen cage. It took us by complete surprise. Then they told us there was something really wrong with Sophie it finaly caught up to me and I tried not to start crying in front of the pet docter. A little while later they told us we could make a decision.
We could have an x-ray done or we could just put her to sleep. After a while I decided on the x-rays. It showed that there was a lot of fluid around her heart and stomache. They could try and make her live for another month or put her to sleep. I decided on putting her to sleeps so she would not have to suffer anymore. They brought her to us so we could say good bye and the saddest thing the part that made me cry the most is when after we said good bye they carried her out of the room and just before the door closed she turned her head towards me and I had to start crying.
