Sparky by A.E. Randle

Five years ago on 2nd March 1997 I had the most beautiful
Little bunny ever She was an Easter present from
my mum and dad.
It was love at first sight I knew what I wanted when I first saw her.
She was a bit timid for the first few days but when she knew this
was her new home she made sure everyone knew that!
She spread herself out on the window sill or made herself comfortable
by taking over the setee.
She wasn’t a house bunny just came in to watch the
television a few times a day.

On 1st February 2002 She turned ill got worst so we took
her up the vets. For five months they’d been saying “its her teeth…
She’s got spurs on her teeth” I left her in so she could have a
dental but the surgeon said he’d found a large mass in her abdomen.
Sparky came home with me for the weekend but had to go in
to have an operation on Monday.

I sat in the vets alone stroking my bunnies ears until she dropped
with happiness. I’m sure she knew something was wrong..
she crawled up and put her paws on my shoulders
and then I left her.

The vet phoned a few hours later…cancer
I broke down I couldn’t believe it…please not my Sparky
I was so angry I started to drink more than what I used to.

It’s been one month now I still can’t believe it.
My family don’t understand what I go through she didn’t mean
alot to them. She was my best friend… more than my best friend
She meant the world to me.
I’ve got back into my normal activities but I still drink more.
Sparky was not just a rabbit to me but my best friend,
part of my life.

I wanted to join the army but while I was away in New Zealand
she got too upset She wouldn’t go near any of the family
come near the house or anything until I came home
so it put me off.
I’ve got no excuse to stay here anymore.
A part of my life is missing now and it’s never going to be replaced.
I still cry myself to sleep and brake down this is one bunny which
will never be forgotten.
She was very popular with all family and friends especially the
dogs and will be missed alot.

My Sparky I love you
my darling,

A.E. Randle
