Spaniel / Terrier
She was known as Tanya the Wonder Dog.
She use to run with my brother to the local deli while he was on his bike.
She was the only dog that was allowed in the deli.
The owner loved her and gave turkey or roast beef whenever she came in.
She use to go jogging with my other brother in the park during the day
and slept with me at nights. She never left my sight unless one of my
brothers would call her to keep them company.
She was given to me as a puppy when I graduated Junior High School
and was my best friend ever since.
My father whose an artist did a pastel drawing of her laying in the
fields and that has stayed with me ever since.
At the age of 14 she got into a car accident. Unfortunately she saw my brother
take off on his bike and thought he was headed for the deli.
She jumped over the fence and ran after him. Not finding him she got confused.
Started to run across the street and got hit.
She crawled all the way home and the owner of the car followed her.
She collapsed on the front lawn and the owner of the car rang the bell.
She wanted to help but I realized it wasn’t her fault.
She was shocked that Tanya was able to crawl her way home.
I quickly dashed her to vet to find out that her pelvic area
was ruptured and couldn’t have a litter.
I thank God that she was ok.
She became ill at the age of 18. By the age of 19 I had to decide to
either let the vet perform surgery on her or put her to sleep.
They said because of her age chances are she wouldn’t make it.
I cried so much that night because I knew what the answer had to be.
I couldn’t let her suffer anymore.
I’ll never forget the day she died peacefully in my arms.
I couldn’t let my best friend go so I had her cremated.
As of this day her ashes still remain with me along with her picture and drawing.
She was such a wonderful friend who gave such unconditional love
and no one can ever replace her.
I’m sure God has given her a wonderful home.
One that I can only imagine her running through the fields as I see in the
drawing that I have resting on my shelf.
