Basset Hound/Beagle mix
Topper was my first dog.
We have two family dogs but Topper was my puppy.
I got him as a little four week old furrball and he grew into a
handsome little guy. He was in our best guess a Basset Hound/Beagle mix.
He was black and tan and had a smooth coat that I will never forget petting….
He was adorable and though he was a little strange looking everyone loved him.
He was not a super smart perfectly conformed dog but he was mine
and that made him perfect to me.
He would come when I called and he would sit with me and play with me.
He was such a good boy….. and then it all ended.
He was asleep under our truck when my Mom started to back it up….
and that was it. He died instantly and I guess that is the most you can ask
for in a death. I loved him dearly and I miss him every day when he is not
there to follow me out of room play with me sleep next to me and lick my face.
He especially liked to do that.
We try to find some good in it or at least something to ease the pain.
The fact was that he was only 8 months old and had so much to live for.
His front legs however were a bit deformed.
At first we thought it was just the basset in him but I now know that it
was more than that. He was deformed but it didn’t slow him down when
I called him or when he ran with me or when he played with the other dogs
Sahara and Jazz. He was the best little Topper-Dog anyone could ask for
and he will NEVER be forgotten.
Although we now have a bouncing baby Border Collie mix pup
Topper can never be replaced. Ever.
“I love you Topper-Dog.
And I will always love you always.
We miss you and we are sorry.”
