On my way home from work last night, I ran over a homeless(?) cat with my car. She appeared to be feral and had led what seemed to be a pretty tough life, as she was living on the streets in the city where I live. We have quite a few homeless cats in my area.
There was nothing that could have saved this life, but I took her in and gave her a resting place beside my garden.
