Veronica by Doug & Stephanie / Your Mommy and Daddy

Veronica, Mr. Crawford, and I welcomed my fiancée and his son into our lives about two years ago. I had adopted Veronica from the Denver Dumb Friends League about eight months earlier,
and she was my angel girl.

After she had been with me about four months, I discovered she was diabetic, so we went through the regimen of bloodwork and insulin until we got her dosage right. If I was busy getting out the door in the mornings, she would tell me, “Mommy, I know you and Daddy have to go to work, but don’t forget my shot, because it makes me feel better.” Doug and Logan loved my kitties, even though they have to take allergy medicine. The change in Veronica during the two years she enriched our lives was amazing. She had been rescued from a very bad situation, the shelter had to pull all but three of her teeth because they were so bad, and she was so scared when she first came to our home. But she became a little purring bundle of love. She was never a snuggler like our other kitty, but she was content just being near us and giving us those slow blinks that we call “Eye Kisses”. She also had a big crush on her daddy. Whenever she was lucky enough to find one of Daddy’s socks, or his workbag, or the sleeve of his coat, she would curl up on it and look at him adoringly. For a year and a half,
she was a happy, healthy, loving kitty.

About six weeks ago, we noticed that she wasn’t acting the same way. She started fighting the shots, instead of coming to remind me if necessary. She started losing weight, although she was still eating the same amount of food. When Daddy and I weighed these factors alongside some other physical issues, we decided to do the hardest thing that either of us has ever done. We took our little Angelface back to the Dumb Friends League, where she got a shot and fell asleep in the nice lady’s arms. We saw her afterwards, and she looked peaceful.

Sweet little girl, we are so grateful that you were in our lives and gave us your love, trust, and companionship. We love you so much, and miss you terribly. We took care of you in every way we could, and are so happy that you are “all better” now. We love you so much!

Goodbye, our Princess, our Sweetheart, our little Angelface. Tell Charlie hello for us – you both will live in our hearts forever.

Love and Eye Kisses,
Veronica
