Waggles ” Still With Us
Are there angels among us?
I believe there are.
I prayed that God would take me. It was time to leave the
pain to find peace across the Rainbow Bridge.
God answered my prayers with an Angel.
I couldn’t see the angel but I knew one was near.
The angel stood beside a neighbor in Aug 2000 to give her the
courage to convince my owners to give me up.
The neighbor knew that for the past two years I had been confined in
a kennel too small to stand up.
She also knew that in June of that year my owners abandoned me
in the backyard and rarely did I get fed.
As the neighbor took me in her arms I heard my owner’s last words,
“I can’t believe she’s not dead yet”.
As I looked in the neighbor’s eyes I silently asked her to let me go.
I wanted to die.
The neighbor told someone on the phone that you couldn’t touch
my body with the head of a sewing pin without hitting a flea or tick.
Yes I remember when I was a family pet with white fur
then the baby was born.
It was at this point I was forgotten.
The next evening I was brought to a lady that rescues Maltese dogs.
The angel touched this lady on the shoulder as the blanket
covering me was unwrapped. I saw tears in her eyes as she cradled
me in her arms. I was so weak I could barely stand up so she hand fed me.
She said to me
“If you won’t give up I promise we won’t give up on you”.
She tried to comfort me by telling me I was a ‘pretty girl’ and
one day I would again be a ‘beautiful girl’.
I knew as she talked softly to me she wondered if I would live
through the night. As I fell asleep I told God it was time,
but the angel asked me to trust this lady.
The next day I was taken the hospital.
I heard the sadness in the doctor’s voice as she explained
I was severely anemic with a blood count of 12.
I also had ear infections a urinary infection open wounds on
my back and was severely underweight.
The only fur I had left was compressed into mats of dead fleas.
The doctor said I probably would not have lived more than
two weeks.
The lady kissed me and reminded me I was a ‘ pretty girl’.
With the strength I had left I wagged my tail.
The doctor was optimistic seeming my response to the lady
and decided I should stay in the rescue home at night.
I’m sure the angel was with the doctor and staff as they cared
for me for weeks. While I knew I didn’t look like the other Maltese
in this home the lady continued to tell me I was a ‘pretty girl’.
I really wanted to believe her.
While I still could not see my angel there was something very special
that happened in this home a few days later.
While the lady and her four yr old son cuddled me in bed as he said
his prayers they asked God for a special blessing
for me to be healthy.
The child then said “Momma Waggles is my best pal
can she stay with us forever?”
From that moment on I knew I was loved.
They kept their promise they never gave up on me and
I renewed my desire to live.
Today I am a healthy 9 yr old Maltese have a full coat of fur
and Momma tells me daily I am a ‘beautiful girl’.
I know one day I will cross the Rainbow Bridge but as long as
I am on this earth I will be living a wonderful life with the
angel God sent me…
A little boy who calls me his “best pal”!
