Zoe by Shelby and Dan Threlkeld / Zoe Threlkeld

All pets are special to their owners, but I would like to tell you why Zoe, was really special. She was the runt of the litter when my wife got her, The last of the bunch. Zoe was a pretty boxer, with tan and white fur. She stood proud and bold as boxers do. She had a little knot on her head, which did not go away until her adult years, by then her ears had suffered with cauliflower deformity.
But she was always beautiful to us.

But what made her special was, her special needs, she had separation anxiety. When she was a pup, she would rub her nose raw, on the cage, and bark constantly until we got home. Later we got another boxer, Riley, who helped Zoe through her issues. But Riley passed away a few years ago. By then, Zoe could handle her anxiety a little better, but it was always present.

We got Zoe before we had our own children, so she latched on to Shelby and I, as a pup. Where we went, she had to go, she wasn’t interested in being outside chasing rabbits and squirrels, she had to be where we were. where she could see us, or at least hear us. If she had to make a choice between the two of us, she would, but she would always know where we were. And if we needed to go some place, she wanted to go. Like a needy child, with special needs, she needed us, more than we realized.

She is gone now, she crossed the rainbow bridge at 6:05 in the evening on October 7th, 2014. I think my wife blames herself, for some reason, but Zoe had cancer, a weak heart, and maybe a few other issues. She was 14, the top end of a boxers life. Even if we could have afforded the operations, I am afraid the recovery, may have been to much,
she was an old girl.

She loved us and needed us more than most pets, because of her anxiety issues. But that is what made her special to us.

Our special Zoe,
Zoe
