Arip 29, 2004. It was the day I was going to have a new 4-H/FFA project. I was going to continue working and showing rabbits.I just finished showing my friend’s rabbit and I was relieved that it was over. After showing the rabbit I decided to walk around and see other rabbits.
Well, when I was walking around I was looking at the doe and litter projects. There was this one litter that had Mini.Lops. To me they were the cutest I have ever seen. And when I came closer there was a baby rabbit that hopped close to the door of the pen. It was cute and sweet by my standards.
Right then and there I knew that rabbit would be mine. It was different from the others, which made it special in its own way.
Well I convinced my parents that I should have him. At the same time I also showed the litter to my close friend (almost like family to me). Well my friend wanted a bunny too, and from the same litter; which required convincing her husband to have one. So we each got a bunny.
When we brought him home my dad realized that Gizzey had features like my first bunny Aladdin (his Tribute is on this page); which made my new bunny more special to my family. Our family loved Gizzey from the first day that we had him and still do now even though he is not with us.
I just wish I could have been here for when it happened, but I was at a FFA meeting out of town. My Mom found him laying in the middle of my room, lifeless – he had worked his way out of his hutch again. We don’t know what caused his death (just like Aladdin); only that he was gone.
(Jessie’s Dad typing now) Jessie is obviously broken up over the loss of Gizmo… we all are. Little brother Matt (now 8) cried himself to sleep last night because he spent more time with Gizzey than he had with Aladdin, who died just a few days after Matt’s 4th birthday so long ago. After Aladdin came Midnight, Jessie’s big black kitty; and she’s still with us. There was a New Zealand buck rabbit named Angel, who Jessie sold as her 4H project two years ago (he lives with a family near us). And, after Angel came a tiny Holland Lop named Sophie, who Jessie showed last year and lives with us today. Good pets, good friends all. However, we’ll never forget Gizmo, who now is buried in our garden next to Aladdin.
Somewhere, in God’s Heaven for Beloved Pets; there are a couple of Dutch Mini Lops… meeting for the first time and sharing a snack of apple peelings (Aladdin’s favorite treat) and lettuce leaves (for Gizmo). We hope their spirits know how much they are loved by a little girl that has become a beautiful young woman; and also by her family.
Loved by me and the family FOREVER!
