Phoenix by Angie Waldrop / Mommy

My first encounter with Phoenix was out of my car window on the way to class in college. I saw this little white bundle moving in the center of the road. And what I thought at first was a baby possum, was a kitten who was bleeding but alive and looking terrified. I stopped traffic in the middle of the street to get this kitten.

From the first moment I put this little being in my lap and rushed him to the vet, I was in love. He ended up with a paralyzed front leg, which was amputated years later. But he still got around great. He stayed with me wherever I moved throughout the years. He was my only friend at times and gave me nothing but unconditional love. His favorite thing was to be held like a baby and bury his face in my hair.

When I found out this week that he had terminal cancer, I was devastated. We made the decision today to let him go, but he gave me one final gift. He passed away in my arms on the way to the vet, so we did not have to put him to sleep. I never had a pet like Phoenix before, and never will again. I will always miss you Bubba!!
Thank you for being in my life.

I Love You and Miss You,
Phoenix
