On May 27th, 2007 one of my best friends was born. My cat Tomi had given birth to a beautiful litter of kittens two days before my birthday.
All the kittens were brightly colored with very unique designs, until one very plain patterned kitten caught my eye. My mother has always taught me never to judge a book by its cover, and out of the kittens this ordinary cat had captivated my heart. The time came to take the kittens to the S.P.C.A and with a great amount of begging I convinced my parents to let me keep the kitten I had grown to love in a handful of weeks. I named him Edward Alphonse Crabtree. I’m usually the indoors type of girl but all of our animal are outdoor critters. Everyday I found myself outside with a book laying in the lawn, and everyday I would find a very patient Edward waiting for me to come outside.
I would read hours and not once leaving my side was that silly orange kitten. He followed me everywhere, with every affectionate rub against my legs made my heart melt, and I realized I had made a new best friend. Unaware Edward had become extremely ill I began to notice he was loosing a great amount of weight. I tried changing his diet and to get him to eat properly but over a period of a week and
a half he kept getting skinnier.
On the night of April 9th, 2009 the Colerain Animal Clinic called to let us know Edward had passed away with an extreme bacterial infection. The wound is still fresh and I feel as if I lost a very close friend. A friend who consoled me when I was sad, a friend who kept me company when I was lonely. I will miss Edward dearly and continue to cry, but I know he’s in a good place and in God’s arms he is resting, watching me with those big topaz eyes, and capturing the hearts of all the angels.
I will love and miss you Edward; you were my best friend.
