Rottweiler
We adopted Angel.
We wanted another dog and decided to rescue one so we went
to a local animal shelter. She looked so thin and we were
told that she had been used as a breeder and that when they
were done with her they just dropped her off.
She had been kept outside. She was a large dog five years old
and we were apprehensive because we had two small dogs at home.
So before we committed to taking her we brought the two little
ones to meet her. They didn’t have a problem so we took the chance.
We felt it was kind of risky bringing her to our home because we
hadn’t raised her and didn’t know anything about her but once we
brought her home she fit right in.
She loved being loved and pampered and became spoiled in a
very short time. She loved sleeping on her back and I guess because
she saw the two little ones climbing on the sofa with me she thought
it would be okay for her to walk all over me and squeeze in between
me and the sofa cushions and it was okay. ! I didn’t mind.
Sometimes she got on the sofa before I had the opportunity to
and laid her head on the pillow that I keep there for “My” head.
And that was okay too. Sometimes she would disappear and we
would find her sleeping on her back on our bed.
We had her for only three years.
She began bleeding through her nose and when we brought her in
they did some tests and discovered it was cancer.
I couldn’t bring myself to be with her for her final moment but
asked my husband who went down and held her and
spoke to her and said his and my good-byes.
This has not been the first time we have lost a beloved animal
but each time it hurts as much as the first it just gets harder.
We will miss her and wish we had her a little while longer
but I’m glad she was part of our the family.
