Anna by Patricia Trenholm / Anna

This is a very sad little story. I got my beautiful Lhasa Apso when she was seven months old. She was the best dog I have ever had. She knew every word I said and had a very loving nature. I never had any bother with her and she was never ill. Then one day when she was eight years old she did not want to come down the stairs so I had to carry her. I took her to a private Vet who said there was nothing wrong with her as she was just attention seeking. Then she did not want to walk. No, it was not old age. She was back a few times they said there was nothing wrong with her. I was so fed up that I took her to our local P.D.S.A who gave her a full check up and, yes, she had gone blind overnight. She also had a very big appetite and drank a lot of more water than usual.

The P.D.S.A noticed that Anna had bulged out on one side. Then the Vet told me to look up Cushions Syndrome and they took her in for tests which were all positive so this had destroyed her eyesight overnight and she never accepted this. Then she could not jump up on the bed or chairs so I had to carry Anna up and down the stairs. By this time Anna had put on so much weight; she was 2stone. she was put on Modrenal capsules and eye drops and I had to go to the P.D.S.A for two years in all. Then she started to lose weight in October 2005 and she was easier to lift but she did not eat much food. Well, she was clipped on Christmas week on the 31st December. She was like a puppy again was all over the place and in the garden and was playful and her last meal on New Year’s day. She then became very sick and started to puddle as well the sickness continued for a day and I knew she was in pain so I got an emergency appointment at the P.D.S.A. When the Vet saw her he rushed to put her on a morphine and fluid drip and I was to phone him the following day, but early in the morning I got a phone call from the Vet to tell me that Anna did not make it she had passed away peacefully on 5th January at 3 a.m. I did not think that I would see her again as she was
also dying before we went away.

But I am so very grateful to the P.D.S.A. for all their help. I just know if I had left her to the private Vet she would not have lived so long with this terrible illness. Anna died not from Cushions, but in the end of Kidney Failure. God Bless her. We loved her so very very much. The house is empty without her and I am still missing her so very much. God Bless Little Anna,
