Brutus by Coral Vail / Sis

Brutus,my beloved Rottie of 13 years, could no longer walk. My stepmom decided to put him to sleep. Before he crossed over, she took him home and talked to him and said good-bye.
She decided to take him for one last ride in the truck. He always loved truck rides. He never failed to be happy during a truck ride. So she went to lift him into the truck. He was laying down in the yard moaning in pain.

My stepmom went to pick him up only to discover that he was walking over to the truck, painfully but happily. My stepmom knew this would only cause him more pain and she didn’t want his last couple of hours of his life to be painful so she went to pick him up. He refused. Instead she tried to call him. He came a few steps. Then she tried an old trick. She got a treat out of her pocket and said “At heel.” He knew those words. They were calm and gentle.

He went to her, walked behind her to the other side of her and sat down. That was his special trick. Then he laid down and drooled, just like old times. Unfortunately I was not there to witness this miraculous event but I believe with all my heart that it happened.

To my Brutus: I love you baby and don’t you ever forget that!

I love you baby!
