"Lessons In Life"
As the years go by I have come to see
love doesn't come so soon or easily.
I longed like many for someone to hold.
To share my life with until I grew old.
Many a time I gave love a chance.
but one did stand out above all the rest.
What surprises me most I'm still amazed,
was the little puppy I took into my life one day.
As he grew his love for me stayed.
the same as always nothing ever changed.
It didn't seem to matter if I was short heavy or tall.
He would stay by my side through it all.
The distance and times that we were apart
I missed his presence with an anxious heart.
My life was empty or so it seemed until I would come home
and he would be waiting patiently for me.
By my side at night he would rest
of all the options I knew this was best.
The love that he gave me was simple and pure.
True unconditional love I now have learned.
The day this little one came into my heart
My life began to change instead of falling apart
He taught me lessons I needed in life
Like how to love and care for someone before choosing a wife.
Like so many of us we so often feel,
Love has passed over us this day until,
we take that chance just once more again.
and open our hearts to a true special friend.
Had I not taken that little one into my life that day.
I would have never known how to love this way.
It's not important what we see with our eyes.
But how we share and give to others with our lives.
Many are out there waiting just like you and me
wanting to find someone to love faithfully.
But many will never have that one chance to live,
to share the love and joy they so easily give.
