My daughter and I picked up Zeus on February 2, 2007 at the age of 7 weeks for a companion to our one year female Chihuahua/Pekingese. He weighed about 2lbs but was a firecracker. We took him to the vet on March 18 for his second set of shots. He recevied his 6 and 1 and the rabies shot and wormed. Exactly one week after his shots he had a grand mall seizure at 4:00pm. My heart was ripped out with the horrified episode I experienced. After rushing him to the vet he was sedated and put on seizure watch. He had another seizure at 12:00am and continued to have small ones throughout the early morning and was heavly sedated and they administered seizure medication. He was moved to another vet in the morning where he was sedated and monitored and given fluids. He was seizure free for the next 14 hours. I took him out of the hospital and drove him to my parent’s house in the mountains where he could be monitored around the clock.
Zeus had no more seizures and was living the life of a country dog. He helped my dad move sticks and made a new friend with one of the many stallions they had there. Zeus did not weigh more than 4lbs at this point and was as spirited and happy as a puppy could be. That next Sunday he developed a slight fever and did not get around much that day. The next day he was up and running around back to normal. My daughter and I went up to the ranch to spend the weekend on April 12, 2007. Zeus and my female were so excited to see my daughter. They played and Zeus found her lap on many occasions.
Sadly on April 15, 2007 at 4:00am Zeus had a grand mall seizure. They continued throughout the day. My father took turns with my mother holding him and helping him come out of the long seizures and short seizures. They loved him and let him know that he was not alone. At 9:30pm Zeus had a grand mall seizure that he just could not come out of, his little heart and tired body just gave up.
He touched all of lives with his little pounce and the anxious bark….our little Zeus has his wings and is touching all the angles the way he touched us….he will be greatly missed and we LOVE YOU ZEUZZY…he did more in 5 months that dogs do in 10 years…
