Cagney

April 1991 —- March 7 2001

Border Collie / Lab mix

The first 8 months of Cagney’s life are a mystery.

She was a Border Collie/Lab mix that we found at the humane society;

she had been picked up as a stray and no one had

come to claim her.

I fell in love with her the minute I saw her.

She was sitting in the cage looking at us with the saddest

brown eyes I had ever seen. When I stopped to get a closer look at

her she offered me her paw through the bars as if to say

“Let’s be friends”.

I took her home that day and she became my baby

and my best friend.

She had a sweet personality and she always had a wagging

tail for everyone she met.

Cagney had her moments of mischief too.

She was an expert at sneaking food and one time we even

caught her up at the table with her head in a pizza box!

Overall though she was a great dog.

She rarely barked she loved kids and people and

she was very intelligent.

When she developed breathing problems and was later

diagnosed as having congenital heart failure I knew that she

didn’t have much longer with us.

I spoiled her rotten in her last days and when she died suddenly

at 3:15am on March 7 2001 I was heartbroken.

I had planned to have her put to sleep that day but I guess she

and God decided it was better for her to go at home.

At least I got to be with her to tell her I loved her one last time.

I will remember Cagney forever in my heart and I hope that she

is playing happily at the rainbow bridge waiting for all of us

who loved her so much to join her someday.

We all miss her especially her best friend Sydney a black lab

who was her companion for 7 years.

God Bless you Cagney.

May you rest in Peace.

We love you.
