I first met my Sonny at Auburn University. He was spunky and the sweetest cat you could ever ask for. A true love bug. He had no master and he neighbors around my friend’s park took turns feeding him and he was known as DOC (Darn Orange Cat). At the time, I met Chip he was your a typical street rogue roaming around getting food and love where he could get it.
My friend encouraged me to take him since I missed my pets back home. He quickly became my best friend bringing great happiness and joy to my life. He went through the good times and bad and was always there for me looking up at me with sweet loving eyes. My mother laughs to this day that CHIP could meow a perfect MAMA vocalizing he wanted inside or feeding or love.
He loved to play and loved to hunt and live in the country where he could roam free and protect the family from intruders. We called him our soldier boy because he would march up and down the sidewalk and fend off intruders along with his buddy our other cat Fred.
Around the end of September 2003, after 12 years with me, his health started to deteriorate. I knew something was wrong granted he was getting older and not quite as spunky. My sister a veterinarian proceeded to search for the problem. Blood work failed to show the answer. Two days before his death she did work as he continued to go down now not eating or drinking water. She saw signs of what she thought was a UTI and placed him on medicine.
Continuing to deteriorate the day he died, she discovered signs of his lungs filling with blood a sign of rat poisoning. She did all that she could to save him. I am grateful of her attempts and the love that she showed him in his final hours. Now our beloved CHIP is with GOD and I have faith that my sweetheart and I will be together again in heaven. I will always love you my sweet Chipmunk. Always remember my song to you. I always meant every word of it.
Sonny, thank you for the love that you’ve given me; Sonny thank you for the love that always be; when I was down, you were my clown. Hey Sonny I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Sonny, I will love you always and forever,
Chip |
