Tabby Cat
My husband and I had been married for little over a month
when we decided to get a cat.
We started our hunt in a local pet store.
When we walked in the store
we saw the cutest little tabby cat staring at us from behind a big cage.
He was very small with gray stripes and big green eyes.
My husband and I played it cool though.
After all we couldn’t take the very first cat we saw home.
We searched the store walked out and my husband looked at me and
said “didn’t you like that little tabby cat?”
I said “I thought he was real cute I didn’t think you liked him.”
Back in the store we went to buy our little friend.
Fang grew into a beautiful affectionate cat.
He loved to hang around us especially when we watched TV.
Before he would jump up on the couch he would wait for the
“yes we want you up here” signal
which was a loud snap of the finger.
Often he would lie on either my husband’s or my legs
as we stretched out on the couch.
Fang weighed 14 pounds
so he tended to feel a little heavy after a while.
We were always trying to convince him to go lie
on the other person’s legs.
Fang’s favorite activities included chasing after pretzels and
crumpled up paper and playing a game
where I would quickly pat him on his side
turn and run then he would chase me until I was cornered.
I would then chase him back to his spot.
We did this over and over until we were too tired to play anymore.
Fang was diagnosed with kidney disease in September.
At first we thought there was hope when he responded to treatment.
But soon the medication stopped working
and he started to deteriorate rather quickly.
We tried to hold out but it became painfully obvious
that he was living a miserable existence.
We decided to take away his suffering in December.
Good-bye Fang.
Thank you for twelve wonderful years together.
We will miss you terribly.
But we know that you are once again happy and
healthy and chasing after pretzels.
