Gomez Garcia by Julio Garcia / Daddy

It all started back in 2001 when my girlfriend brought home a 13 Year old domestic shorthair with kidney problems. We went out and bought special food, and with lots of love our Gomez stayed very healthy. Over the time we had with Gomez, we became very close. Gomez had a strong personality of his own. He was definately one of the family.

I can remember coming home from work everyday, opening up the door and seeing him sitting on the back of the couch. I would kiss my girlfriend hello and he would meow as if saying “what about me, daddy”? As I would turn to him he would stand on his hind legs and jump on my shoulder. He would then lay across the back of my neck as I walked around the house.

On mornings when we did not work, he would come in the bedroom and stand on our chests. If we would pull the blankets over our face, he would paw at them until he would eventually pull them down. And if I had to work on my PC or do anything else he would follow as if he were my shadow.

He could also never get enough of my clothes. If I had been wearing something and put it on the couch, floor, bed or whatever, sure emough he would sleep on it.

Eventually we moved and the stress of the moved ended up shutting his kidneys down. He was bedridden for 2 days and although he did not appear to be in any pain, it was still awful. He died as I walked in to check on him, so I knew that he went peacefully. As I am writing this he hasn’t even been dead for 24 hours and it really hurts alot. Hopefully, we made the right choices for you Gomez.

I love you very much and miss you so much already. You will always be in my heart, Mr. Mez. Can’t wait until I get to see you again on the other side. You brought lots of joy to my heart, I hope that you are truly at peace on the other side.

I will always love you
Gomez Garcia
