German Shepherd
We got Hannah from German Shepherd Rescue in
Burbank CA on July 23 1994.
She was about 2 or 3 years old at the time we aren’t sure as there were
no records left with her when she came into rescue.
She came home with us a nervous frightened girl who had been abused before.
Over the past 5 years she came out of her shell and took over the role of
Alpha bitch taking great pleasure in her daily ritual of chasing our Rottweilers
around the house and yard stealing their toys making sure we knew
when the mailman arrived and generally ensuring our safety at all times.
She was very untrusting of strangers but friends who came to the
house also became friends of hers eventually and on her terms.
Once she was your friend you were her friend for good.
She enjoyed having her belly scratched and when she felt the need she
would take her paw and hook it on my arm pulling it to her belly for this treat.
She shared breakfast with us daily patiently waiting for her share which was
one of life’s certainties. She immensely enjoyed going for walks and rides in the car.
On this final day of her life she bloated so fast she was gone to the
Bridge before we could get her to the emergency clinic.
She got to go for one last car ride and as we were carrying her out I asked her if
she wanted to go for a ride and her ears perked up slightly.
I followed in my truck and by the time I got to the clinic she was gone.
I miss her terribly already.
I take comfort in knowing she had a wonderful life with us
and went fast with little suffering.
Good-bye my Hannah belle and Daddy and
I will see you again when we meet up at the Bridge.
