Became a member of our family on April 30th 1991.
She was a belated present for my son’s eighth birthday.
They even shared the same birthdate almost his being
March 19th Baby’s March 20th.
She bonded instantly with all of us my son my mother and myself.
She was a fuzzy mass of black that in time would become
a beautiful black Cocker Spaniel.
Baby stole everyone’s heart and made each member of
the family feel that “they” were her favorite.
She was a playmate for my son a companion for my mother
and the love of my life. When I came in from working the evening
shift she would get out of one of their beds to greet me at the door.
Than she would follow me to bed sleeping beside me all night.
As soon as the alarm went off she would jump down and go
to my son’s room. She wanted to make sure she was the
first sight he saw every morning.
At Christmas time she loved to lay under the tree.
She thought all the excitement and decorating was just for her.
On Christmas morning she would lay beside me waiting to be
given her gifts. She unwrapped each one by herself and
loved to play in the paper.
My mother passed away in April of 1998.
Baby grieved right along with me. She looked everywhere for her
“other human”.
Baby had always been a “little on the heavy side” but in the spring
of this year she began to lose weight. She didn’t want to go
outside or for rides in the car one of her favorite pastimes.
Her health continued to decline.
On August 30th I made one of the hardest decisions of my life.
She had been such an active loving dog that I
could not stand to see her suffer anymore.
I held her and talked to her told her how much I loved her.
Told her she would now be with “Gramma” in heaven.
She looked at me with those big brown eyes as if to say
“it’s okay” and she was gone.
Baby gave such unconditional love and devotion to her family.
No other dog will ever take her place.
She was one of a kind.
I know that she is in heaven with my mother watching
over my son and me.
Baby was my best friend my confidante my advisor.
I thank God that I had the opportunity to love and be
loved by woman’s best friend.
