Lucy by Tracy Dunn / TRACY

It was July of 1996 and a friend of mine found this little dog wondering around the highway. She brought it home and called me to ask if I would be interested in having another dog, (I already had 3). I went over to her house and saw the little dog; she had stomach hernias and was in pretty bad shape. We had no idea how old she was. I didn’t want to take on another dog, not one with all the problems she seemed to have. She walked over to our car and when I opened the door she just jumped in so we decided to let her come home to live with us. We all feel in love with her but I had a special bond with this little red dog.
She was my pal, my buddy.

A few years later I was going through a divorce and she was really the only living thing that helped me through; she listened; she loved and she never judged me. August of 2000 I came home from work and I knew something wasn’t right. She always met me at the door. When I found her she was breathing hard and couldn’t walk. I knew she had a stroke. That night I slept by her side. I took her outside and had to hold her rear quarters so she could potty. It was terrible.

The next day my ex husband and I went to the vet together; we got there before the vet had even gotten there. Our fears were realized she had a stroke and wasn’t going to get better. We decided to put her down. We both cried and said our good byes. She helped me and now I was going to help her. She knew we loved her. She came into our lives when we all needed her most. She will always have a special place in my heart,
for I really did… LOVE LUCY!!!
