Maddie by Kate & Simon Bland / Mommy

Dear Maddie:

More than anything yesterday
I did not want to say goodbye to you.

If I possessed a magic wand,
or fairy dust or a genie
in a bottle my wishes all would
have been for you.

Alas, I owned none of those things and
now I have lost you too.

I didn’t want for you to see me cry,
to witness sadness that you might
construe as something caused by you —

As you have never given me anything
less than unconditional love,
a lifetime of glorious memories
and joyful happiness.

You have held my heart –
a part of it has belonged to you
since we met that day more than 7 years ago

Last night you carried that love and
my heart with you, upon your angel wings,
to Heaven.

You were my soul and
my spirit too.

Yours and Sammy’s legacies now join with mine –
intertwined forever.

Lessons of life and
love taught well everyday.

Lessons and gifts I shall never forget…
as I will never forget you.

It broke my heart to let you
fade away yesterday.

I held you in those final moments,
my tears falling like rain from the sky.

Tear drops glistening like crown jewels
upon the top of your head.

All day and night the winds had howled –
I told you it came from the wings of angels
that had flown down to accompany you on
your last trip –
so many angels in that room last night –
taking with them 1 more than
they had arrived with.

I let you go for one reason alone –
I love you more than anyone – more than myself

I love you first, and last and in-between

I love you forever and for always.

Do your angel wings glisten
