Major was my first dog. After begging my mother for weeks she finally gave in and let my get a dog. I was 14 years old. I picked Major out of the liter because he had such character. He popped his ears out and tilted his head to the side and looked at me. That was all it took. He always looked at me in that special way. Not a day went by that he did not greet me at the door with such excitment to see me. When I met my husband as a teenager, Major quickly took to him and
they also became the best of friends.
Major never lived a dull moment. We always joked that he had 9 lives. As a puppy Major ate a disposable razor that he got out of the trash, a pair of opal earrings, 2 retainers, a box of chocolate flavored Exlax, and disposable latex gloves. The vet just did not know how this dog was still alive. No matter what I did, he would still manage to get into stuff he should not have been in. As an adult, he managed to get into a lot less, but still had his moments. For example, this past summer he got into the trash in our new home and ate 7 spare rib bones. Because of that he had to spend 3 days in the hospital. So, like I said, Major never had a dull moment. To this day I can not believe he lived until 14. When I married my husband, Major’s and my last name became Payne. It was destiny. Major Payne lived up to his name.
Major – I love you with all my heart. You are my “baby boy.” You kept me on my toes and I tried my hardest to keep you out of trouble. I just wanted you to be pain free again. I see you sitting on Uncle Ryan’s lap right now. He will take great care of you in heaven. I know I will see you again someday. Daddy and Daisy miss you and love you.
With All My Love,
Major |
