Merlin by Ellen

A Memoir to Merlin

You were ever my silent friend –
A vermilion sunset
in your little water world.

A macho soldier sentinel
grimly patrolling the perimeter
of your territory – on alert
for marauding pirates bent
on rape and pillage of your
non-existent harem.

I reinforced your lifeÆs purpose
with smoke and mirrors –
I courted you with palaces.
I caressed you with whispered words
of worry at your hunger strikes.

Your rainbow beauty was too
ethereal for this transplanted
brittle solitary world.
May you spend eternity in soft
rain forest rivers;
May you overcome endless evil
scaly knights in death combats
over endless fishy maidens.
